Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about the checkup, what happens after you submit, and home warranties in general.
About the checkup
Is this free?
Yes. There is no cost and no obligation. Providers pay us for referrals, which is how the service stays free for you.
Is Home Warranty Checkup a home warranty company?
No. We are a referral service operated by Luxury Brands International Inc. We do not sell, underwrite, or administer warranty plans, and we are not an insurer, broker, or agent.
What does "qualifies" mean?
Only that your answers fit the general customer profile our partners serve — for example, that you own the home and it is a property type they cover. Each provider makes its own decisions under its own terms. It is not a promise of coverage or price.
Why do you ask for my ZIP code first?
Providers serve different states and areas. Knowing where the home is lets us route your request to providers that actually serve it before you give us any personal details.
After you submit
Who will contact me?
If you check the consent box, one or more of the companies listed on our Marketing Partners page may contact you by phone, text, or email about home warranty plans. Your contact preference on the form (call now, schedule, or email only) is passed along with your request.
How quickly will I hear back?
That depends on the provider and your contact preference. "Call me as soon as possible" requests are typically handled fastest. If no provider in our network serves your area, you may not hear from anyone — we do not sell your request to unrelated companies to fill the gap.
Will you sell my information?
We share your request with the partner(s) who may serve you, and they compensate us for it — under some state laws that counts as a "sale." We do not share your information with unrelated data brokers. You can opt out at any time on our opt-out page; details are in our Privacy Policy.
How do I stop the calls or emails?
The fastest route is the opt-out in any call, text, or email you received. You can also use our opt-out form or email [email protected]; we suppress your record right away and relay your request to any partner that received it.
What is the consent certificate?
We use ActiveProspect TrustedForm to record your session on the form and the exact consent language you saw. The certificate proves to providers that your consent was real and informed, and protects you from companies that did not receive it.
About home warranties
What is a home warranty?
A service contract — not insurance — that typically covers repair or replacement of home systems and appliances that fail from normal wear: heating and cooling, water heaters, kitchen appliances, plumbing, electrical. You pay a monthly or annual fee plus a flat service fee per visit instead of the full repair bill for covered items.
How is it different from homeowners insurance?
Homeowners insurance covers damage from events like fire, storms, and theft. A home warranty covers wear-and-tear breakdowns of covered systems and appliances. Most homeowners who carry one have both; one does not replace the other.
What is usually not covered?
It varies by plan, but common exclusions include pre-existing conditions, improper installation or maintenance, cosmetic damage, items over a coverage cap, and some older or commercial-grade equipment. The contract language is what counts — read it before you buy.
What should I ask a provider?
The service fee per visit; per-item and annual coverage caps; how pre-existing conditions are determined; who chooses the technician; the waiting period before coverage starts; and how cancellations and refunds work.
